Segway Rider's Club of The Villages
About the Club
If you live in The Villages and love to ride Segways, then this group is for you! Over 100 members strong, this Segway riders group takes part in several rides or "outings" in the central Florida area each month as well as conducting fund raising events for Segs4Vets whenever they get a chance.
Most members don't even own a Segway but instead use units provided through the club at a nominal fee for the outings. After joining, all members must complete a rigorous Segway "boot camp" which is held on the 400 acre Florida Carriage Museum & Resort. Once they received this training, they are eligible to take part in all club outings.
Monthly club meetings are held at the Hibiscus Recreation Center. Interested persons should contact Tom or Barbara Davis at 352-446-4984 or by email at segwayriders@hotmail.com

Segway Experience: Thanks to all who helped - and there were many of you - we had a very fun and successful Segs4Vets Event on February 18 raising over $1,700.00 for the charity and getting over 113 Villagers on Segways! This event was sponsored by Segway of Central Florida, The Villages Recreation Department and The Segway Riders' Club of The Villages. All proceeds go to the SRC Segs4Vets fund.
Outings:
The next outing is scheduled for Tuesday, February 16 at 10am. This is ride will be in Mt. Dora and is full - please email us at segwayriders@hotmail.com to be placed on the wait list. Please meet at the Segway dealership located at 140 W 5th Ave, Mt Dora, FL 32757.
ENCORE PERFORMANCE OUTING! Due to popular demand, we are scheduling another Mt Dora outing on Monday, February 22nd at 9:00 a.m. for those who could not get booked on the 02/16 event. Please call Segway of Central Florida at 352-383-9900 to sign up!
Segway Boot Camp:
Tuesday, March 16th, 9am and 11am at the Florida Carriage Museum. Everyone must attend boot camp prior to going on an SRC outing. All Boot Camp attendees must bring their own bicycle helmet and must view the Segway On-Line Training Video BEFORE attending boot camp. Registration is limited and on a first come first served basis. This is a great ride and open to all SRC members, (non-members can sign-up and join at FCMR). To sign up for Boot Camp please call 352-383-9900. The cost is $40.00 per person.
Special Event: Volunteers Needed!! - Florida Carriage & Horse Festival: Spectacular equine performances, elegantly presented horse drawn carriages and beautifully groomed equines of many breeds and colors, craft & food vendors, art & car displays, etc - February 19, 20 & 21 from 9am to 4pm at the FCMR (were we have boot camp). Please call Tom/Barbara at 352-446-4984 if you can volunteer to help with this. The Club, in conjunction with Segway of Central Florida, will be training and supervising riders for donations to the Segs4Vets fund. Volunteer for 4 hours and your admission to this event is free (incl. free access to the museum) on the day you volunteer.
Special Event: Volunteers Needed!! - Northeast Florida Scottish Games & Festival/Segs4Vets Fund Raiser: Celebrating 15 years of bringing a "wee bit o' Scotland" to the Northeast Florida area - enjoy athletics, music, food and fun of the games - Saturday, February 27th, 2010 at the Clay County Fair Grounds in beautiful Green Cove Springs, FL. from 9am to 5pm. See www.neflgames.com for additional information. Segway of Central Florida will be offering a 10-minute Segway Experience as a Segs4Vets fund raiser. Six to eight SRC volunteers will be needed to help with this event. Volunteers will enjoy free parking and admission to the Festival, work with Segs4Vets for half the day and enjoy the event for the other half of the time.
